Children of Men

I just saw Children of Men last night with my friend Nicole and the movie is really something. It’s quite bleak but at the same time it moves very quickly and I never found myself wondering when it will end (unlike The Good Sheppard). I thought everyone gave terrific performances and the cinematography is top-notch (All Things Considered has a great interview with director Alfonso Cuaron about a fantastic six minute un-cut shot). The film juts hits you really hard–Nicole and I just sat there for minutes after the movie ended just digesting it.

Am I the only one who didn’t like this movie? Quite frankly, I didn’t care much for the premise. The “savior of the human race” theme came off as being very stilted. The world, as portrayed by the film, is certainly similar to our own; however, I never was convinced that the would could ever be faced with such a problem.

Also, De Niro is out of his mind for making Shepherd three hours.
