Who knew? But now vodka is becoming trendy. But don’t worry:

Heh. I have always thought that a lot of vodka’s appeal is that it is basically tasteless, so you can always follow the following recipe with vodka:
1. Take a drink — any drink — that tastes good to you…
2. Add vodka…
3. Voila, your favorite drink will now get you buzzed.
This is why it’s popular with girls who like to get hammered on sugar water instead of actually developing a taste for liquor.
Scotch more popular than cognac, though? Wow! You know, I love both scotch and cognac. I’m not sure which I like better. Both are excellent (and expensive) choices. I also forced myself to develop quite a taste for pastis, in my quest for gothic absinthe awesomeness. It is also super French, though I’m sure it’s way less popular in France than the big mainstream liquors.

Yes. Witness the success of ‘chick drinks’ such as Bacardi Breeze.
Speaking of French alcohols, I’m a fan of cider (the real Norman stuff) and Calvados.
